Gauge & weight calculator

Estimate what a duct section weighs — per foot, per section, and per hanger point — from the size and gauge. A typical low-pressure gauge is suggested from the size, or pick the gauge off the drawings.

Enter the duct section and calculate bare sheet weight and hanger loads.

Estimate Basis

Published sheet weights, not a copied gauge table.

Weight comes from the sheet metal perimeter times the published galvanized weight per square foot for the gauge. The typical gauge suggestion is a conservative low-pressure band by size — the SMACNA gauge tables depend on pressure class, reinforcement, and joint spacing, so the drawings and spec govern.

What this does not do
  • Does not include connectors, reinforcement, or liner
  • Does not select gauge by pressure class
  • Does not size rods, straps, or anchors for the load
  • Does not replace the SMACNA HVAC DCS or the spec
Field Verification Required

Verify gauge, weight allowances, hanger capacity, and anchor ratings against the current SMACNA HVAC Duct Construction Standards (Metal and Flexible), the structural drawings, and the job spec before hanging or rigging. This calculator is a planning aid, not an engineered support design.
